Christantus Uche Fuels Comfortable Crystal Palace Victory at Shelbourne.
Despite embarking on their first-ever continental campaign, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without key figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a commanding win that virtually secures them a place in the Conference League playoffs.
Another victory in their upcoming match against Finland's KuPS should be enough to secure straight entry to the last 16, especially after a previous stumble against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Opportunity
This match provided a chance for several Palace's lesser-used players to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second start after joining on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a clinical goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second consecutive succession.
The Shelbourne side that had concluded their domestic season proved outmatched even for a mostly rotated Palace lineup. The visitors were already depleted by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with knee problems.
Control Asserted from the Start
In spite of heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A flowing move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, let Nketiah to set up Uche for a simple tap-in.
Midfielder Adam Wharton went close minutes later, driving a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah then claimed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the official dismissed the protests.
Ex-Arsenal man didn't need to wait long to get his goal, prodding home from a yard out after Uche's shot had hit the post.
The home side were clinging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for two robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past a series of weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest several players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring with his very first touch, but saw his effort blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off both posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then blazed a glaring chance, indicating there is still scope for improvement in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, capping an otherwise perfect evening for the traveling side.
